Sushi and Starvation

Sorry for the delay. Jacquelyn and I have been busy and being homeless is quite exhausting. That does not mean that we haven't been having a good time with our hosts. On Friday we went out for drinks and sushi at a place called Opal. They fed us large beers and delicious sushi to the background of very very loud House music. It was half dance club half restaurant. Naturally I loved it. Here are some pictures that we took at Opal and before leaving:
Trying to decide what to do for the night before going out.
 Miles happy as always.

FOOD Arrives!

We decided not to hang out too late since the next day we were going to go visit Dane.

As usual, we were about two hours late getting to his house in the morning. This was actually a good thing seeing how Dane had only gotten out of bed about thirty minutes before we showed up. We weren't really sure what we wanted to do for our Saturday adventure, but we decided on another hike and Dane just started driving us North.

Dane decided to take us hiking on a trail that he mountain bikes in Walker Ranch Park. We drove through Boulder to access our first winding mountain road up a few thousand feet to the park. We didn't really see much of Boulder except for a few of it's really expensive houses along the way. Once the road hit the mountains it was incredible how quickly we were climbing above Boulder. It just became a small town below us. Here is a picture I tried to take on the way back down.

Once we reached the trail head we got all of our gear out and put it into my backpack only to realize we forgot our snacks. We just figured "Whatever" and started on the trail. About eight miles later we realized this was a very bad mistake.
The weather that day was quite nice. Sunny and warm even though there was still snow on the ground and for the average elevation being around 7000ft. So, we shredded most of our layers and sweat from time to time. It was nice to be in the mountains away from a city like Denver and Boulder. We really couldn't see anything largely man made besides the occasional train which could be seen in the distance. In the picture below you can barely see a train traveling on the mountain where the snow builds up into a straight looking line.
Its too hard to see maybe.

The trail was mostly just long climbs and descents. Quite tiring and hard on an empty stomach. Hey look our first fixer upper.
A bridge!
I claim this Farnsworth Falls II. We stopped here for a bit and naturally I got as close to the water as possible.
Our mountain guide Dane and his trusty dog Lucy.

This video does nothing for it. Sorry about my camera skills. I will improve.

Right after the falls we had to climb up what seemed like the tallest set of stairs I've ever climbed. This was the first time Jacquelyn and I could really feel the altitude difference. By the time we got to the top all of my blood was in my legs and my chest felt like it was going to cave in. Granted I probably could have taken a break, but I was compelled to try and push myself a little. I did have to stop for a second to laugh when Dane said, "Well your body is probably freaking out right now trying to produce as much hemoglobin as it possibly can". I am quite sure he was correct.

This is how amazing nature is. If a tree can't get any sun it grows an elbow.

The last half of the hike mostly consisted of us discussing everything food. We were almost to the point of just wanting to get to the end of the hike. I contented myself by munching on the different types of snow available to me. Snow crackers, while hard to come by since the top layer must be ice and the bottom side powder, I learned are quite tasty and refreshing. But the views were still awe inspiring. Did I mention that the trail was mostly snow even though most of the snow around it had melted.

Most annoying to walk in for four hours or so, but good for the legs I suppose.

Well we reached the end of the hike and piled back into the car exhausted but feeling great. Dane gave us a wild ride back down the mountains. Thank God for traction control. HA! Once back in Golden the three of us went and ate some really good Mexican food with many margaritas. It was a good weekend.

Since then it has been just work. We should be moving into our apartment this Friday with the possibility to move in sooner. We shall see. It is late right now and unfortunately for you Jacquelyn is asleep or else she would have corrected all of my grammar mistakes and made this post much easier to read. So I say Goodnight and much love.

Can't express the joy I have for you Matt...

LOL you need to learn about what to take on a hike brother. www.backpacker.com/checklists you want dayhike, it's a little much in my opinion but it should cover you and then some. Also denim is your worst enemy.

    Keep the posts coming!
